Free ATS Resume Checker for Indian Students & Freshers
Many resumes are filtered out by applicant tracking software (ATS) before a recruiter ever reads them. Upload your resume to OfferStack’s free ATS resume checker and get an instant score out of 100, a point-by-point list of what is costing you, and a one-click AI fix for each issue.

An applicant tracking system is the software companies use to collect and filter resumes. It reads your resume as plain text, so anything it cannot parse, such as tables, columns or images, can sink an otherwise strong application. Recruiters then search that text for skills and keywords. Your ATS score estimates how cleanly the software can read your resume and how strongly it signals a good candidate to the person who reads it next.
How OfferStack calculates your ATS score
The score runs the same checks every time, across five areas that add up to 100 points:
- Contact and completeness (18 points): a valid email, a real phone number, a LinkedIn or GitHub link, a target job title, and your degree and college.
- Summary (12 points): 30 to 80 words, focused on achievements rather than an old-style “objective”, with no personal pronouns.
- Bullet point quality (38 points): quantified impact without stuffing a number into every line, strong action verbs instead of “worked on” or “helped”, no buzzwords like “team player”, varied opening verbs, and bullets of a sensible length.
- Skills (20 points): a technical skills section with at least 10 relevant skills.
- Soft signals (12 points): evidence of teamwork, leadership and communication, which recruiters look for beyond raw skills.
On top of that, an integrity check caps your score if the resume still contains unfilled placeholders like [X] or [N], or a fake-looking phone number. A recruiter would reject those on sight, so the score does too.
Match your resume to a job description
Paste a job description and OfferStack shows how well your resume matches it, along with the keywords from the job description that your resume is missing. Adding the ones that genuinely apply to you is one of the quickest ways to get past keyword filters for a specific role.
Common ATS mistakes freshers make
- Leaving template placeholders or dummy numbers in the final resume.
- Starting bullets with “Responsible for” or “Worked on” instead of what you achieved.
- Listing duties with no results, or the opposite, putting a percentage in every single line.
- Writing a generic objective statement instead of a short, specific summary.
- Using two-column templates, tables or graphics that ATS software cannot read.
- A thin skills section that is missing the tools named in the job description.

Frequently asked questions
Is the ATS resume checker free?
Yes. The ATS score is free, and you do not need to sign up to see it.
What is a good ATS score?
Aim for 80 or above. A score below 60 usually means something is capping it, such as an unfilled placeholder or missing contact details, so fix the issues marked in red first.
Does it work for freshers with no work experience?
Yes. Projects, achievements and positions of responsibility all count, so students and freshers are not penalised for having no full-time work history.
How is the score calculated?
It runs fixed checks across five areas (contact details, summary, bullet quality, skills and soft signals) that add up to 100 points, plus a cap for placeholders and fake contact details. The same resume always gets the same score.
Can I check my resume against a specific job description?
Yes. Paste the job description and OfferStack shows your match and the keywords you are missing.
What file formats can I upload?
PDF, DOCX or TXT. You can also type your details directly into the builder.
Is my resume data safe?
Your resume is processed to generate your score and is not sold or shared. See the site’s terms and privacy pages for details.
